Warsaw, Winners of the KICkoff 2016 Competition in Sustainable Energy
The KICkoff Competition 2016 was successfully completed in September 2016 in Warsaw, Poland.
A two day boot camp preceded the Finals, during which teams, deriving from the Local Semi-finals across 12 CEE countries, developed their projects and pitched in front of energy market experts and investors.
Over 200 people attended the Finals on the 20th of September 2016 – organized by KIC InnoEnergy, the innovation engine for Europe’s energy industry - and watched the 10 finalists present their sustainable energy ideas and compete, in front of the jury of the competition. During the award ceremony, KIC InnoEnergy announced the 3 winners of the competition.
PolarSol from Estonia won the first place, claiming the prize of 10.000 € and access to the KIC InnoEnergy Highway® business accelerator, presenting their proposal for an autonomous solar heating system. The second place, with the prize of € 5,000, went to the Greek start-up Pleione Energy SA, who present their idea for Drywall-integrated supercapacitors, while the third place went to the GreenerGizer from Hungary, winning 3,000 € for their solution which reduces the energy consumption of refrigeration units. Bin-e (Poland) received an audience award, with its proposal for waste management in smart buildings.
The competition also offered the regions brightest minds a unique networking opportunity to trade ideas, meet potential investors and engage with the newest innovations and business ideas in the sustainable energy sector.
KiNNO, as the representative of KIC InnoEnergy in Greece and Cyprus, participated to the event providing feedback and support to the contestants during the preparation phase. The company promotes and supports the services of KIC, seeking out to bring together ideas, inventors and industry and support entrepreneurs and start-ups, in the field of sustainable energy in both Greece and Cyprus.
