Athens, Open Day 'Organic Products in Athens: Perspectives & Trends of the industry'

Organic Farming is recognized as a dynamic industry for some countries and as an emerging business space for others. By taking into account that the business prospects of the “green” movement in food industry are visible in Greece, Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry, with the support of KiNNO Consultants LTD. organized an Open Day on “Organic Products: Perspectives & Trends of the industry”, which was held in Athens, Greece, on the 1st of December 2010 within the framework of the European project “TECH.FOOD - Solutions and interventions for the technological transfer and the innovation of the agro-food sector in South East regions”.

The Open Day was consisted of Local Focus Groups’ meetings and technical seminars and was coordinated by Mr. Yiannis Geragotellis, Managing Director of KiNNO Consultants LTD. and Mrs. Polymachi Symeonidou, Managing Director of Organic Products Cluster. The participants had the opportunity to be informed about current trends, opportunities and challenges for the organic sector. The market for organic products in Greece was presented in detail and open initiatives for funding individual enterprises and/or collaborative schemes, enhancing organic farming and certification procedures were presented. The event ended with an open discussion among participants which led to experiences’ exchange and highlighted the concerns of stakeholders on production, packaging and marketing trends, both nationally and internationally, for organic products.
