The project aims to conduct a comprehensive study on how Open Innovation (OI) is managed and organized in SMEs, with the goal of leveraging existing, scattered initiatives and professionalizing their services. By investigating good practices of OI across diverse SMEs in Europe, the project will explore barriers, critical success factors, and the “pathways” these businesses follow in their innovation processes. This includes examining SMEs from various economic contexts, innovation trajectories (e.g., high-tech vs low-tech), and stages of their lifecycle. The insights gained will facilitate the design and development of an Integrated Toolbox for OI in SMEs, enabling these businesses to effectively manage OI initiatives, whether facilitated by large corporations or through public-private partnerships.
